Hi, I’m Rouge of Rouge.Ink, a cosmetic tattoo artist out of Vancouver, BC. I recently did a boudoir shoot with Lux Boudoir in Vancouver, BC. It was my first boudoir photoshoot and I have to say, I was blown away by how much I enjoyed the Lux Boudoir experience! I had fun, got a workout in, and felt like a goddamn goddess. Kari and Lindsay took such good care of me, and made me look like a queen.
Here are some things I recommend you know before your first shoot!
1. Your photographers KNOW what they’re doing!
These aren’t just any photographers, they’re boudoir photographers! What I mean by this is that they are pros when it comes to anatomy, lighting, and making you look BOMB on camera. While getting in front of the camera in a scantily clad outfit can be vulnerable – TRUST that your photographers will GUIDE you into the most flattering positions. I was so impressed by the tiny tweaks that I was guided to make with my body, and how accurate and precise they were at giving me those cues!
2. Be playful during your photoshoot, and get in the mood to have fun!
Prior to my shoot, I did “mountain pose” for a few minutes to ground myself out. I also recommend having a glass of champagne if that’s your thing, putting on some soulful music, or whatever it is that makes you get out of your head and feel more embodied and playful! Remember, this can be a very memorable, FUN activity!
3. Be open to the feeling of CHANNELING your sultry and divine essence of Boudoir.
When you’re dolled up at Lux Boudoir, you will feel sexy and more empowered. Communicate what you want from your boudoir makeup artist to be aligned with what makes you feel your very best. We all channel our inner “archetypes”, and exude the energy that comes with certain outfits, looks, etc. Bring your favourite outfits and any props that bring out your flirtatious side!
4. Eat first and be nourished before arriving at your shoot. It’s a workout!
As a bodybuilder and fitness aficionado, I did NOT expect I would be getting such a workout on the day of my Lux Photoshoot! You will be holding poses, arching your back, sometimes in pretty awkward positions – but hey, anything to get the perfect shot, am I right? Do not show up hungry!
5. Life is short. ENJOY it. Be ready to EMBODY your body… you only live once!
All of us have some semblance of insecurity. We all play the comparison game, and it truly does a disservice to our ability to be present and grateful for our lives in THIS moment! For me, the shoot was a way to honor my vessel, my body, which is home to my life. And life is damn short! Your shoot will pay homage to this moment, and someday you will look back and think, “Damn, I was so young then!”. So, enjoy your body, enjoy your shoot, and don’t hold back on FEELING your juicy self!
